Welcome to Mr. Koci's Third Grade website!
This is the place to find out what's going on in our class.
Thanks for visiting!
I do request that parents refrain from sending in sugary or "energy" drinks or snacks as they usually bring with them unruly behavior and a "crash" as soon as the sugar wears off. Please send a water bottle with your child each day. Trips to the water cooler can provide a much-needed break for some; but for many it is an interruption in instructional time. I appreciate your help with this.
Can you believe we are more than half-way through the year already? FCAT Explorer is a free and easy-access online program to help prepare your children for the rapidly approaching testing season. There are plenty of free online resources for your child, including www.fcatexplorer.com and www.thinkcentral.com. FCAT Explorer Access codes went home some time ago. They are as simple as your child N number for their log in and their PIN is their password. If you need these numbers, contact me and I can get them to you. Please contact me or Ms Bryan for other online activity suggestions.
Have you checked your child's take-home folder lately? The agenda is where we write daily reminders, including homework assignments, but the take-home folder contains printed notices, newsletters, and completed, corrected assignments. Your child needs feedback from you on his/her completed work. Do you think your child is performing on par with your expectations? Please contact me for suggestions of follow-up activities you can do at home to shore up your child's learning, especially in math and reading. Your involvement is VITAL!
Happy March! With Spring around the corner, testing season and the end-of-year are rapidly approaching. The students have been working hard on their reading and math skills as well as learning about the growth cycle of plants, the Olympics and practicing for the Spring Fling Concert at Payne Park on Tues. Mar. 4th. Everyone will be ready for Spring Break the week of March 10-14, but then we'll be ready to hit it again come St. Patrick's Day on the 17th. We'll be continuing to learn about the growth cycle by tending our school garden and learning about the classification of different kinds of animals. We'll be exploring Women's History Month with a Reader's Theater series about famous women and their contributions to our world. Speaking of plays, please don't forget that our Musical this year is "Bye Bye Birdie". The show is cast and rehearsals are underway for all our students. As members of the SAA family we'd love your help with set construction, costumes, and other production needs. Please feel free to contact Ms. Julie or myself if you'd like to know how you can help. this is also a way to get your volunteer hours out of the way!
A Reminder: Wed. Mar. 26th is the end of the third quarter so any make-up assignments are due by Friday, Mar. 21st so I have time to get everything graded and in the computer. I would not recommend waiting until the last minute.
It's getting smoother as we move through the year. Since Winter Break we have re-established our routines and the lessons have become a bit more rigorous. We need to have the students ready for FCATs in spring. I have all assignments posted in Crosspointe so you can actively view your child's academic progress. Thank You all for your continued support and help in the class.
You Are Appreciated!
